About The Scott & Julie Mawaka
Charitable Foundation

linking philanthropy with community through charitable events

Scott and Julie Mawaka, a couple from Hudson, OH, created The Scott & Julie Mawaka Charitable Foundation in 2004. They reside in Hudson, OH with their two daughters, Kylie and Jordyn.

In an effort to bring awareness and funding for non-profit organizations in the Cleveland-Akron area, they hosted an annual golf outing to benefit local charities. The Mawaka Foundation, originally created as a pass-through organization, is a 501C3 Non-Profit Foundation.

Scott and Julie have selected beneficiaries that have personal meaning to them, their friends and family. Major annual sponsorship from The Mawaka Family, Fleet Response, Miele Foundation, Enterprise-Rent-A-Car and many friends and colleagues who participate on an annual basis have supported The Mawaka Foundation in their resolve to make significant charitable donations. Past beneficiaries include The Feel-Good Foundation, HeArt Inc., Habitat for Humanity Geauga County, The Northern Ohio Chapter of the ALS Association, and Youth Challenge. With the generous support from family, friends, colleagues and neighbors, The Mawaka Foundation raised over $1,000,000.00 in donations over ten years.

In 2016, The Mawaka Foundation changed directions and collaborated with LOPen Charities to support The Akron Children’s Hospital Showers Family Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders. For five years, the collaborative effort hosted “Rockin’ FORE The Kids,” a weekend—charitable event including a golf outing, music, food and philanthropy. The event generated $700,000 to benefit Akron Children’s Hospital. Headlining bands including The Gin Blossoms (‘16) Rascal Flatts (‘17), Steven Tyler (‘18) and Starship (‘19) and Sammy Hagar (‘19) as well as celebrity chefs and sports figures, participated in the weekend long event. In 2018, The Mawaka and LOPen Charities established a $1 Million commitment to an Endowed Chair honoring Dr. Jeffrey Hord, M.D. of the Pediatric Hematology / Oncology Unit of Akron Children’s Hospital. Click here to read more about the Endowed Chair. This commitment was fulfilled in 2020 and will provide support in perpetuity.

In 2021 the Mawaka Foundation will again pivot towards a new endeavor in supporting The Western Reserve Land Conservancy in an innovative event: ROC in CLE ~ Reforest Our City!!! This new partnership focuses on bringing awareness to the mission of WRLC: “To provide the people of our region with essential natural assets through land conservation and restoration.” Together, our goal is to improve the health, beautification and wellness of the greater Cleveland community by hosting an event unlike any other!

In honor of their family, friends, and community, Scott and Julie, together with The Mawaka Foundation, will continue their charitable efforts to have fun and make a difference.

Their gratitude for the support and generosity they have received over the years is immeasurable.
